Being offered is a sterling silver handbell by Wallace Silversmiths in the “Craftsman” aka “Arts-and-Crafts” style. Craftsman style was at its peak in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. It has a hand-hammered finish with a simple unadorned handle. Handbells were very popular at the turn of the century because they were used to let everyone know that it was time to sit down and eat, especially at dinner time
