Based in Corning, NY, T.G. Hawkes & Co. (c.1880-1959) was established by Thomas Gibbons Hawkes. Born in Ireland, Hawkes immigrated to Brooklyn in 1862, then moved to Corning, opening his own cut glass firm in 1880. His firm, T.G. Hawkes & Co., soon became famous for quality wares. Hawkes' glassware was used in the White House from 1885 until 1938. Hawkes pieces can be found in museums world-wide. This is an excellent example of Hawkes; the mix of sterling silver and crystal. The pineapple/diamond design on the upper glass with a faceted design from the middle downwards. The silver handle folds down for storage convenience. What an elegant way to serve ice either on a dinner table or bar-cart.
